Preaching from Psalm 46:4 alongside Romans 8:35-39, the Reverend George Speers explores the image of the river whose streams make glad the city of God as a picture of God's covenant grace in Christ. Rev Speers traces four 'streams' flowing from that covenant — divine prospect, divine commerce, divine fertility and divine supply — drawing on illustrations from history, geography and writers such as Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, John Calvin and Matthew Henry. The sermon calls listeners to find lasting beauty, wealth, fruitfulness and satisfaction for the soul not in the world's broken cisterns but in the inexhaustible grace found in Jesus Christ.
