The Reverend George Speers works through the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37, warning against reading the parables as allegories and instead drawing out their single central point. He examines the lawyer's self-justifying question 'who is my neighbour?', the shocking reversal of expectations in the priest, Levite and Samaritan, and Jesus's redirection of the question to 'whose neighbour should I be?'. Rev Speers applies this to the danger of empty religion without love, and calls for a continual, grace-driven neighbour-love rather than one that sets limits on who deserves compassion.
