In the second part of a two-week study of 1 Kings 12, the Reverend George Speers examines the tragic split of Israel's kingdom under Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Rev Speers traces five themes running through the chapter—growing discontentment, arrogant folly, divine sovereignty, profound division and authoritative word—showing how God remains sovereign and gracious even amid human sin and rebellion. The sermon closes by pointing to God's preservation of the line of David, through which the Messiah, King Jesus, would ultimately come.
