In this study of Acts 10:44-48, the Reverend George Speers explores what he calls the 'Gentile Pentecost' – the dramatic moment when the Holy Spirit falls on Cornelius and his household as Peter preaches. He traces four themes: the Gentiles' immediate response of faith, the outpouring of the Spirit as a marker of God's unfolding plan of salvation, the administration of baptism as the new covenant sign replacing circumcision, and the enjoyment of Christian fellowship and teaching. Along the way Rev Speers stresses that salvation is by Christ alone, that Jewish and Gentile believers stand as equals in the church, and that every believer needs ongoing instruction in God's word.
