In this second sermon on Zechariah, the Reverend George Speers looks at why the book was written and what it teaches about God. He shows how Zechariah first stirred a lethargic post-exilic community to finish rebuilding the temple, and how it still calls every generation to wholehearted service rather than excuse-making. Rev Speers then traces three great theological themes running through the prophecy - the presence of God with His people, the promised Messiah, and the costly redemption He would achieve through suffering - showing how vividly Zechariah anticipates the person and work of Jesus Christ.
