Preaching from 2 Timothy 1:3-18, the Reverend George Speers explores Paul's final imprisonment in Rome and the painful desertion he suffered from those in Asia, set against the faithful loyalty of Onesiphorus. Rev Speers draws out three movements from the text: the wounding inflicted by rebellion and betrayal, the refreshing love of a true friend, and the ultimate comfort found in God's mercy on the day of Christ. Along the way he weaves in illustrations from Calvin, Spurgeon, Sproul, Alistair Begg, and the biblical examples of David, Jonathan and Joseph, urging listeners to expect betrayal, to be an Onesiphorus to others, and to rest their hope not in human loyalty but in the mercy of God.
